Polycarbonate Sheets (Clear Polycarbonate / Lexan)

Polycarbonate Sheets (Clear Polycarbonate / Lexan)

Clear (Lexan) polycarbonate sheets are a high-performance, transparent plastic sheet that combines exceptional impact strength with excellent clarity and dimensional stability. Compared to traditional glazing materials, polycarbonate sheet is up to 250× stronger than glass and significantly tougher than acrylic, while remaining much lighter and easier to handle.

This material is ideal wherever safety, visibility and durability are critical: machine guards, protective screens, security glazing, greenhouse panels, roofing and more. Polycarbonate maintains its toughness even at low temperatures, making it highly suitable for demanding Canadian climates.

PolyDX Plastic supplies clear polycarbonate (Lexan) sheets to industrial, commercial and architectural customers in Montréal, Laval, Québec and across Canada. As a plastic sheet distributor, we offer full sheets as well as value-added services such as cutting, CNC machining, drilling and bending so you can receive parts that are closer to “ready to install”. PolyDx Plastic Plastic Lexan Polycarbonate

Features

  • Exceptional impact resistance – up to 250× stronger than glass and 30× stronger than acrylic in many applications.
  • High optical clarity – excellent light transmission, suitable for transparent guards and glazing.
  • Durable and tough – resists breakage, chipping and cracking under normal service conditions.
  • Good temperature performance – service range typically from approx. -40 °C to +120 °C.
  • Weatherable grades available – UV-stabilized polycarbonate for outdoor use (depending on grade).
  • Lightweight vs. glass – easier handling, installation and support structure design.
  • Easy to machine and fabricate – can be cut, drilled, routed and formed with proper tooling.
  • Good electrical insulation properties – useful for guards, covers and equipment enclosures.
  • Available in different thicknesses and formats to suit a wide range of industrial and architectural projects.

Our polycarbonate sheets (sometimes referred to as Lexan) offer exceptional impact strength, clarity, and temperature resistance.

Applications

Polycarbonate (Lexan) sheet is used in many markets where a combination of strength, clarity and safety is required:

Industrial & Manufacturing

  • Machine guards and safety shields
  • Equipment enclosures and viewing windows
  • Conveyor covers and process protection panels

Construction & Architecture

  • Security glazing and protective windows
  • Skylights, roof panels and canopies
  • Bus shelters, shelters and enclosures

Commercial & Public Spaces

  • Protective screens and barriers
  • Sign faces and illuminated panels
  • Display cases and point-of-purchase fixtures

Other Applications

  • Sports facility shielding (e.g. rink or gym panels)
  • Transportation and vehicle glazing (non-automotive OEM)
  • Greenhouses and protective covers

If you are unsure whether polycarbonate sheet is the right choice compared to acrylic, PETG or other materials, our team can help you evaluate impact strength, clarity, cost and fabrication options for your specific project.

Regulatory

Regulatory and compliance characteristics for polycarbonate sheets (Lexan) depend on the specific grade and manufacturer. Many engineering grades are designed to meet common industry standards. Upon request, PolyDX Plastic can help you identify grades that may comply with:

  • RoHS – Restriction of Hazardous Substances (e.g. Directive 2011/65/EU, as amended)
  • REACH – Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (SVHC information available from the resin supplier)
  • UL 94 – Flammability ratings such as V-2, V-0 or HB (depending on grade)
  • CSA / ANSI glazing and safety standards for certain architectural or guarding applications (grade-dependent)

Because regulatory and certification requirements vary by application, material test reports and compliance statements are available on request for specific polycarbonate grades. Please contact us with your project requirements so we can recommend a suitable option.

FAQ – Polycarbonate Sheets

Q1: Are polycarbonate sheets the same as Lexan?
A: Lexan is a brand of polycarbonate sheet made by SABIC. All Lexan is polycarbonate, but not all polycarbonate is Lexan.

Q2: Can polycarbonate sheets be cut to size?
A: Yes, PolyDX Plastic cuts polycarbonate to your exact dimensions, including CNC routing, bending, and drilling.

Q3: Is polycarbonate UV protected?
A: Our sheets include UV-stabilized or UV-coated options for outdoor use.

Q4: Do you ship across Canada?
A: Yes, we deliver polycarbonate sheets across Montreal, Laval, Quebec, Ontario, and the rest of Canada.
